Design & Technology

As you will see, there is a lot going on in the department and our pupils are clearly enjoying the experience of designing and making!
Of course, the serious side is that they are learning how to recognise design needs in society, respond to them with suitable ideas, manufacture their outcome and evaluate the result. Obviously this does not happen overnight and begins in the lower school, where D&T is a core subject, with the pupils tackling set projects of increasing degrees of challenge but also giving them the opportunity to be creative and inventive. The really serious business happens during our GCSE and A level D&T courses, which are optional and heavily subscribed. During this time our year 11 and sixth form pupils (both boys and girls), really do make a difference to the people they are designing for and many of them go on to study design related courses at University - anyone need a hovercraft?!
Design and Technology is fun, hard work and challenging academically but what a reward!
