Japanese
Japanese lessons have been running successfully at Eltham College for some time now. Lessons are normally taught in two eight session blocks and the pupils are taught be native Japanese trainee teachers from the Institute of International Education in London. A member of Eltham College staff is always present.
The classes are free and are suitable for ages 11-18. Not only are pupils given a basic grounding in the Japanese language but they also study modern Japanese culture which makes this course equally suitable for lower and middle school as well as for upper school pupils. Class sizes are limited to 12 and are on a first come first served basis. However, anyone signing up for the lessons will be commited for the whole course of those lessons.
The lessons are communicative, authentic, lively and of course enormous fun and do not just include learning of the three alphabets, but also a chance to practice calligraphy and to taste Japanese food products.
Full participation in both sessions can count towards the language element on the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme.
