Year 11 outing to French film

micmacsA group of tired (but excited) Year 11 students sacrificed their Tuesday evening to go and see the highly acclaimed French film Micmacs. When we are told about this beforehand, rage filled our faces and cries of "I thought we were going to Morocco, Sir!" were heard. Nevertheless, we set out to Odeon, Covent Garden in the hope that this would be just as good. And we weren't disappointed. In true French style, Jean- Pierre Jeunet, the crafty director of the film, set out to produce a brilliant comic pot shot at the arms industry that makes for a hearty, funny watch. We weren't too sure that this was going to be the case, but immediate giggles and chuckles from M. Pollard and Mlle Scarantino assured us that this wasn't all too bad. We even noticed some French phrases that we had been learning as part of our GCSE course, and there was even an irregular use of French that we quickly picked up on (au Kosovo, instead of à). The film itself consisted of amazing visuals and graphics, to the extent that in every scene, radiant colours and spectacular views were seen. A student also managed to spot the clever use of advertising the film within the film, because in all of the main scenes, posters advertising the film were seen. At the end, the two teachers still wore smiles upon their faces, more wary of how we would react: "It was really good sir," enthused one student, and suddenly the feeling of relief spread across the face of Monsieur Pollard. The trip was very successful in all aspects, especially the fact that trains were very frequent from Charing Cross so we could get home quicker!
