Chess teams in National semi-finals

The Junior School Under 9 and Under 11 Chess teams have both qualified for the National semi finals of the English Primary Schools Chess Association Team Championship which will be held at Camber Sands in May.  

The Under 11 team (right) of Arul Gupta, Sachin Balaji, Harry Houillon, Alessandro Codogno, Dominic Rushton and Ryan Yip finished in second place in their group, with four teams qualifying. 

The Under 9 boys (left) - Lachlan Jarvie, Rikin Parikh, Dominic Norton-Raybould, Josh Parchure and Arrien Gajdamowicz  - also finished second in their group, but with only two teams qualifying there was a bit more tension!  The competition was held in King George’s Hall and we were pleased to host the event for the second year running.

Eltham College has an excellent record in this competition: we won the Under 11 tournament in 2010 and reached the final again last year. The Under 9s were semi-finalists last year so perhaps they can go one better this time.

All the boys acquitted themselves very well and we wish them all the best for the next stage of the competition.
