Cross-country team come 2nd in Eric Liddell Run

Wednesday 7th March marked the end of a momentous cross-country season for Eltham College. The inaugural Eric Liddell Run entered the cross-country fixture list with a total of five schools taking part. The course was a 3km relay around the school fields, each team being composed of four runners.
Despite the torrential rain that we had experienced for most of the day, the Eltham team braved the elements to make a very pleasing start to the race. Dan Finch and Joe Selley made good headway as Eltham’s first runners for the A and B team. Alastair Basham and Lawrence Hill then kept and extended our lead, eventually passing over the baton to the speedy pair of Abdulla Zaman and Tom Basset. Rob Yates finished in style for the A team and secured an overall second place for Eltham.
A great effort was also made by the Eltham marshals who gave up their games options to guide the competitors around the fields. At every turn they were there to lead us on through the mud (and lead some fuming Judd runners the wrong way!).
Missing out only to the national cross-country champions, The Judd School, and beating the likes of St. Paul’s, Tiffin and John Fisher was a fantastic end to a season that has seen much hard work and tireless training from the Eltham line-up. Many newcomers joined the team throughout the season and we hope to welcome more into the fray when the new season begins in the autumn. Huge thanks are also due to the cross-country coach, Mrs Barsham-Rolfe, who has organised all of our fixtures and motivated us and cheered us on at every event.
