Barcelona 2009

barcelona 1This year our lower sixth had the opportunity to visit the exciting Catalan city Barcelona. Pupils enjoyed intensive language lessons, designed to hone their listening & speaking skills as well as having the chance to develop their confidence in the subject. Their total immersion in the Spanish language & culture can only have served to prepare them for their AS level oral exam at the beginning of the summer term.

barcelona 2Pupils also had the opportunity to learn about the importance of Cataluña within Spain as a whole. Visits to key architectural & artistic locations will stand those continuing to A2 in good stead. Pupils enjoyed visits to such diverse places as the Salvador Dali museum in Figueras, Poble Espanyol,  a cultural park with representations of different areas of Spain - both mainland & the islands. The art ticket allowed us unlimited access to key museums and gallerias such as the Picasso museum, la Pedrera - one of Gaudi's iconic building, the Joan Miro foundation, the MACBA and of course we finished off with Gaudi's signature pieces Parque Guell and the iconic Sagrada Familia. In the early evenings, students were able to enjoy a tapas evening, a visit to the cinema to see the latest Pedro Almodovar film and a thrilling flamenco show! Ole!
