Japanese Club

Japanese Club continued during the Spring Term 2011 on Tuesdays after school with many boys from Year 7 to Sixth Form choosing to supplement their learning with an insight into Japanese language and culture. Learning was fun for everyone and included a variety of activities ranging from exciting and interactive language-based games to more traditional speaking and listening activities. The group also learnt some Kanji characters and gained knowledge about the evolution of these ‘word picture’s. Some aspects of Japanese culture were also studied.
The photograph shows the boys who took part this term - Dominic Healy, Bertie Harrington, Montana Tracey, Jakub Hemblade, Oliver Harriman, Daniel Meier, Francis Meier, Joe Simmons, Umesh Uthayajanthan and Ujwal Nippani - together with the teachers from the Institude of International Education in London, Yoriko Toki, Katsue Satomi and Kimi Mayama and their co-ordinator Kanako Sumitomo (not pictured).
Naoko Matsumoto at the Institute will continue to co-ordinate with Sharon Dunne (Senior School) and Jackie Smith (Junior School) for this club to continue in the Autumn term. If any boys are interested in taking part in this unique opportunity, they should see Ms Dunne.
With the catastrophic events of the earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Japan being so prominent in the news recently, the group's thoughts remain with those affected and we feel a deep respect for the gracious way in which the Japanese people are conducting themselves at this tragic time. がんばれ 日本 (Hang in there, Japan!)
