Debating

The House Debating competition continues to be popular, with weekly debates held at lunchtimes. The Senior Debating Society meets once a week after school, to hone members' skills and prepare for externally organised competitions.

We have already competed in the first round of the Cambridge Union competition, and look forward to the Oxford Union London Round which takes place later this month. We will be visiting Bristol again this term, and hope that we can repeat last year’s top-ten performance.

Senior pupils have also been able to attend a number of public debates for the first time this year, on topics including assisted suicide and vegetarianism. Three Middle School Pupils will be representing the school in The English Speaking Union’s Public Speaking Competition, which is being hosted by Eltham College.

Debating is encouraged throughout the school, primarily through the House Debating Competition, which enables a large number of pupils to be involved in competitive debating.
