Music - Instrumental/Vocal Lessons

A team of over thirty visiting music teachers come to Eltham each week to give one-to-one instrumental tuition. Although pupils may opt to have private lessons outside school, provision is made for any pupil who wishes to take lessons as part of the school day. Over 60% of our pupils learn at least one instrument.

Lessons at school take place on a rotating basis during timetabled hours or, in the case of Sixth formers, during Private Study periods.

Since we believe that performing with other musicians is a vital part of being an instrumentalist, all pupils learning orchestral instruments are invited to perform in school ensembles, including orchestras and bands. Regular attendance at rehearsals is expected since this will enhance the pupils' progress on their instruments.

Application forms for instrumental tuition at the school are available from the Music Department.

If a pupil wishes to cease instrumental tuition, under the Terms and Conditions of Music Tuition at Eltham College, parents/guardians must give at least half a term’s notice in writing to the Head of Instrumental Studies. Parents/guardians giving less than half a term’s notice will be expected to pay the full amount for one term’s lessons. Please note that notice must be received in writing on or before the last working day of the preceding half term (e.g. for lessons to cease at the start of an Autumn Term, notice must be received on or before the last day of the first half of the Summer Term). Please note that school holidays do not count as working days.
