Rugby

Eltham College has a long and successful tradition of playing rugby and continues today to perform at the highest level. Eltham College regularly puts out eleven teams on a Saturday in the Autumn Term and enters 'Sevens' competitions at all age groups in the Spring Term. Over sixty boys regularly train twice a week and play for either the 1st XV, 2nd XV or 3rd XV at the senior level, while year groups comprising 75 boys feed into (a) and (b) XVs at Under 15, 14, 13 and 12.
Eltham College boasts a very good record of success against both local (St Olave's, Colfe's and Judd) and more distant schools (Bishop Stortford, Reigate and Worth) and has enjoyed several international tours in recent years. Eltham's senior rugby squad have visited Chile and Argentina, Namibia and South Africa, Australia and California, and the most recent trip was in 2010 to Seattle and Vancouver. Tours closer to home for the younger teams have included three day trips to Dublin and the North East of England.
Sides in recent years have not only won the Kent Cup but have also enjoyed good runs in the Daily Mail Cup and in the Schools National Sevens Tournaments at Rosslyn Park. Former pupils (Old Elthamians) have been recognised at international level, with the most recent being Jamie Harris who has played for the Gwent Dragons and the full Welsh Sevens team.
