Inspection Report

An 'Outstanding' Report for Eltham College
Eltham College has received an outstanding inspection report by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI). The Senior School was commended for providing 'a challenging, rounded education in a friendly, caring and supportive community where excellent relationships prevail'. The report recognised the outstanding academic results achieved by the College stating that the pupils' performance was (at A level) well above the national average for maintained selective schools - the College's high academic expectations and strong work ethic are clearly being met. Meanwhile, the non-examinable subjects and very diverse extra-curricular programme contributed to 'an outstanding educational experience'. All these activities take place within a strong sense of community which exists at Eltham College, not least because of the excellent relationship between staff and pupils - in fact, the pastoral care was deemed to be 'excellent and a major strength of both the Senior and Junior School'.
The Junior School was equally pleased with its report and was praised for its 'high quality of education for its pupils' which takes place in a stimulating learning environment. The school is proud of the 'outstanding links it has with parents' who were 'unanimous in their satisfaction with the progress of their sons'. Both sections of the school were deemed to be outstanding in the quality of provision for spiritual, moral, cultural and social development and pupils were praised for their courteous, responsible, conscientious and considerate nature. The strong emphasis on service, not least through the Community Service Programme for the Sixth Form and the support for charities was highlighted as being an important aspect of school life
Strong leadership by the Headmaster and effective management is evident in the good quality of teaching, academic achievement beyond the demands of public examinations and the relaxed and purposeful atmosphere. Mr Paul Henderson, Headmaster, is very well supported by a dedicated and committed staff as well as an effective governing body.
