The Chaplain

Rev Robert Draycott is an ordained Baptist Minister who trained for the ministry at Regent's Park College, Oxford, gaining a degree in Theology. He was then the Minister of a church in Northamptonshire for seven years. In 1983 he and his wife and family responded to the call of God to serve with the Baptist Missionary Society in Brazil. After learning Portuguese he served in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, spending three years teaching Theology and Biblical Studies in the state capital Campo Grande.

Whilst he was in Brazil, Rev Draycott's twin sons boarded at Eltham College and he 'followed in their footsteps' on his return to this country, when the post of Chaplain became vacant. In that role he speaks regularly to pupils in both Junior and Senior Schools, arranges speakers for morning assemblies, and leads the various services the school holds during the year.

Rev Draycott is a regular contributor to the IBRA daily Bible reading notes (published in 'Light for our Path') and has reviewed various books for the Baptist Times. He preaches in local United Reformed and Baptist Churches and seeks to be involved in local church life.

The Chaplain is available to conduct Weddings and Funerals if required. For Marriage services the Chaplain acts as both the Officiant and the Registrar and will be pleased to speak to couples wishing to solemnize their marriage in Chapel. Recently some couples have come to the Chapel for their marriages to be blessed, whilst other couples have requested infant Dedication services.
