Nuremberg 2009
The link with the Bertolt Brecht Schule dates back to Autumn 1994, when Ben Pollard, the current Eltham College Head of Modern Languages, spent a year living in Nuremberg and teaching English as an assistant at the Bertolt Brecht. Contact remained over the years; in 2004 the first Sixth Form Exchange between the two schools took place. The annual pattern sees the German group coming over to London for a week each January, with our pupils returning either in February or during the Easter holiday. Both groups enjoy a mixture of sightseeing and school time in addition to living with a foreign family.
This year's visit took place during February half term with one of the largest groups we have had. We spent a full week in the Bavarian city, seeing the old town, the Dokuzentrum (which chronicles the darker chapters of Nuremberg's twentieth century history), the Albrecht Dürer House and the medieval castle. We also spent a day in Munich and visited a local radio station (NRJ), as well as attending and helping out in a number of English lessons.
