A Winning Start to the Greenpower Challenge

Eltham started their 2007 assault on the National Greenpower Challenge, entering their first race in the Sussex and Hampshire heat at the Goodwood Motor Racing Circuit. New rule changes meant that last year’s car EVO 3 had to be modified. These changes were carried out over the winter and with some testing just before the race the car was complete and renamed EVO 3a. The team also decided to build a completely new car to fully conform to the new rules and EVO 4 was born. This car however, was only just completed before the race but was unable to be tested so this would be EVO 4’s maiden outing.

The results from the race of the two cars surpassed anything that was expected or could be dreamed of. EVO 3a finished fourth out of a field of 20 entrants, managing to achieve 44 laps of the circuit in four hours; a total of 105.6 miles. This distance will almost certainly qualify EVO 3a for the finals. EVO 4 however, actually won the race, managing to complete 48 laps in the four hours, that is a total of 115.2 miles; outstanding. This was the first time EVO 4 had run and it performed faultlessly. By winning the race EVO 4 automatically qualifies for the finals to be held in October at Goodwood. Many congratulations to the whole Team who performed and operated like EVO 4 itself - a well oiled machine!
