Academic Success rewarded with Oxford and Cambridge University Offers
Eltham College’s excellent examination results of last August saw 85.7% of students gain a grade A or B at A level. Further evidence of academic success came in early January when the College received an impressive number of university offers from both Oxford and Cambridge. Sixteen places have so far been confirmed and when one considers the good number in the ‘pool’ (awaiting offers from other colleges) at Cambridge it represents an exceptionally strong year. Despite the fact that the number of applicants for Oxford and Cambridge rises every year and competition is becoming stronger, students from Eltham College continue to fare very well indeed.

The nine heading for Cambridge, with their subjects in brackets are Hugo Hadlow (Philosophy), Justin Houlton (Engineering) and Rebecca Arnheim (Law) all at St John’s, Michael Davies and Michael Roberts (Natural Sciences) at Fitzwilliam and Trinity respectively, Soosan Lolavar (SPS) at Jesus, Becky Staples (English) at Magdalene, Tom Ville (Geography) at Robinson and James Black (Medicine) at Churchill.
Alex Serebriakoff (Engineering) has been given an open offer at Oxford whilst the other five offers are to Alistair Godwin and Oliver Baggaley (PPE) at Queen’s and Pembroke respectively, Joel Dungate (Theology) at Regent’s Park, and Chris Gyngell and William Riley (Modern Languages) at Oriel and Queen’s respectively. Paul Henderson, Headmaster at Eltham, feels that these students have earned these Oxbridge offers through commitment “This is a strong academic year group, but these students have shown real dedication both in the classroom and beyond, and they fully deserve the recognition which these offers have given”.
