Acting up at the Edinburgh Fringe

Six Upper Sixth Drama and Music students attended the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year with their A level performance of ‘Hell’s Cabaret’. This was an extravagant reworking of Marlowe’s ‘Dr Faustus’ and was originally performed in the Antony Barnard Hall at Eltham. Relocating to a pub’s basement in the centre of Edinburgh, actors Nick Coupe, Simon Gleave, Iona Maher and Max Mallen, together with the help of two musicians, Harry Penny and Luke Withecombe, flourished under the guidance of Mr Mitchell in order to produce a piece worthy of public consumption.

Extracting as much out of the trip as possible, the group bathed the Royal Mile in flyers, performing on the street and securing larger than average crowds and positive reviews. The audiences were appreciative, if a little unsettled by the extent of German Cabaret not usually associated with the 16th century dramatist!
