College Choir
It has been a remarkably hectic two months for the trebles in the College Choir. In March they performed at the Fairfield Halls in Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with The London Mozart Players, The London Chorus and renowned countertenor Tim Mead. On Good Friday they were invited to perform this same work, this time in German, in front of a full house at the Barbican – with celebrated tenor James Gilchrist, The City of London Sinfonia and the London Symphony Chorus.
More recently, they were engaged to sing at The Royal Festival Hall in the world premiere of Chris Williams’ Songs of the Coromandel Coast, which was written as a musical memorial to the victims of the tsunami in 2004. The piece told the individual stories of people affected by the tsunami, and the trebles gave a moving performance from the perspective of the orphaned children. Once again, they shared the stage with James Gilchrist.
A highlight of their recent work was last week’s recording session at the legendary Olympic Studios in Barnes. Olympic is where The Rolling Stones recorded several of their early albums, and, more recently, the first two Spice Girls albums were recorded. Clearly, these budding musicians have a similarly bright future ahead.
