Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme: 'Silver' Expedition to Kinlochleven

On 17th October, seven members of staff and 27 pupils flew from Stansted to Glasgow before driving on to the Kinlochleven where the students pitched camp. The next day the students, who were split into five groups, set out on a 50km hike around the Mamores, which are a circular group of ten 3,000 feet high peaks just south east of Ben Nevis.

They had all pre-plotted their routes and were supposed to stick to them however, not every group was immediately successful or at least they did not quite manage it in the conventional way – with one group getting lost attempting to leave the village!  Nevertheless, all five groups achieved their goals effectively and all 27 pupils passed their Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award.  Despite the fierce weather conditions, morale throughout all the groups never wavered and the successes were well deserved.
