Fenceathon 2007

On Saturday 26th May, for the second year running, the schools fencers took part in a twelve hour sponsored fencing marathon for charity. Boys from Year 3 up to Year 10 took part in what turned out to be a great day. To help raise funds on the day, Mrs Green, Mr Hillary, Mr Wren, Mr Broncz and Mr John participated in ‘stab your teacher’ sessions. There was also a food tent, foam foil arena, raffle, “fence against a GB team member” and photos from all previous events available to buy on the day. These events raised £550 which will be in addition to the money raised from sponsorship.

Smile International, was this year’s chosen charity which is run by the Doubleday family whose son Tim Doubleday is a fencer. Smile had a stall at the event and raised awareness of their humbling and worthwhile cause to all the fencers and their parents. The VIP this year was the Mayor of Bromley who, together with her two teenage daughters, had a fencing lesson from the two organisers of this year’s fenceathon; Jordan Ratcliffe (Year 6) and Elliott Grover (Year 7).

Special mention needs to go to Ben Duffin who fenced the entire 12 hours in preparation of a (proposed) new Guinness world record attempt later this year. Rooney Chughtai (year 8), unable to take part due to a broken hand, helped enormously on the day running the event, and finally Jordan and Elliott who planned and oversaw the occasion from start to finish.
