GB Hockey International opens Eltham College’s new all weather surface
David Mathews, the England and Great Britain centre forward unveiled a plaque to commemorate the opening of the ‘College Meadow Astro’ on the evening of January 4th 2007. Once it was officially opened David Matthews gave an hour long floodlit master class training session to forty-five enthusiastic hockey players who were eagerly observed by a good number of proud parents. Mr PJ Henderson, Headmaster of Eltham College, began proceedings by thanking the governors, the members of the PE and Games Department and the Ground staff for all their help in getting this magnificent £600, 000 floodlit facility built. Hockey has been the major sport of the Spring Term for five years at the college and this impressive all weather surface is excellent news for the future of hockey both at the school and in the local community. The sand dressed surface measures 101.5 metres by 63.5 metres and will be used by both the Junior and Senior school, primarily for hockey but also for soccer and tennis.
