Making a Difference - VI Former Ed merits Millennium Volunteers Award

During his time in the Sixth Form, Edward Peerless (photographed below) has been taking part in the Millennium Volunteers Award; a scheme that recognises the efforts of young people who volunteer in their local community. Millennium Volunteers is a national movement with 114 MV projects established around England, mostly based in local volunteering centres, schools or colleges. Ed has recently achieved his target of 200 hours, having volunteered at his local church, a charity shop, on a youth camp and at a local nursing home. He has also set up a local ‘clean up’ team, for which he was awarded the MV of the Year London Region Environment Award. The team is involved in various activities including removing graffiti, re-painting benches and fences and picking up litter in the local recreation ground; this is done with the support of the local council.

Whilst volunteering he has not only gained valuable experience and has also enjoyed the opportunities that it has given him to learn new skills and meet new people. Although he has finished the scheme, Ed plans to continue to be involved in the local community, both at home and university. He is clearly an inspiration to us all – very well done.
