Old Elthamian debuts for Dragons but is unable to tame Tigers

Jamie Harris, OE and former captain of Eltham’s 1st XV played for Newport Gwent Dragons on Saturday 30th September against a very strong Leicester Tigers at Welford Road in the EDF Energy Cup. This was his first start for the Dragons and what a baptism it proved to be! Blood binned and sin binned before being replaced by British Lion Colin Charvis after an hour, Jamie can feel pleased with his debut despite being on the wrong end of 41 – 17 loss.

Jamie, who has swapped Loughborough University for Cardiff University this year to be closer to the club, was more than a little surprised when he was called up to go head to head with Lewis Moody and the rest of the Leicester pack. Jamie is the sixth academy member to be introduced into the Dragons playing squad – but as experienced coach and former Welsh international Paul Turner said “he is a promising youngster with a bright future in the game and he will have no bigger test than coming up against Lewis Moody”.
