Private Viewing - Bill Giddings
Pictured below is Katy Hatch, one of last year's Art Sixth and her Grandfather Bill Giddings who exhibited his work at a Private View in Central Hall and in the Old Library recently. Katy, an Economics undergraduate at Bristol University, studied the art of Bill Giddings as part of her A Level studies. A keen weekend painter and former athlete, Bill trained with the great David Bomberg, a founder of the Modern Art movement, whose influence can be seen in some of Bill's life drawings.

The exhibition displays a small fraction of the work of this artist and is one that has given pleasure to many in the college. The English tradition of the garden as subject matter for the artist is clearly alive and healthy. Bill's textured oils of his own garden and the flatter painting of the woods near Chislehurst in which Bill has employed a more’ Cubist’ style has fascinated many pupils and those who attended the Private View. We are very grateful to Mr. Gidding for the loan of this exhibition.
The next Private View is on Tuesday 21st February, between 6.30pm and 8.30 and comprises paintings by Teffany Osbourne. Do come and meet the artist and see some beautiful work.
