The X Factor
Following on from the success of the inaugural ‘Stars in your Eyes’ back in 1998 Eltham College has done nothing if keep up with the modern times by staging its very own X Factor! Beautifully hosted by the satirical and quick witted Mr. O’Shaughnessy both productions, which comprised twelve acts from contrasting genres went down a storm with the two packed houses. In true X Factor tradition the panel were not slow in coming forward and speaking candidly about the acts with Messrs. Pollard and Howell (quite literally) demonstrating their musical expertise and genius at every opportunity. Simon Martin certainly ‘entertained’ us but was never really in the running for a podium finish as were the Economics Department, whose request to ‘Don’t go Breaking my Heart went unanswered! Eltham’s very own Il Divo, the outstanding ‘El Thamo’, who performed ’Regressa a Mi’ and Rosie Woodwards’ Honeypots singing ‘Walking on Sunshine’ were the two winning acts. Strong performances from David Burnett, James Nall, George Evans singing the Eagles classic ‘Hotel California’ and the suave and urbane Joe Keeper meant that the outcome was very close on both evenings. If music wasn’t the winner, then the Cricket Tour and The Grenada Appeal certainly was, with over £4, 000 being raised.
