Last week, Year 9 student Conrad Schmolck was invited as a student guest speaker to the Annual Chinese Teaching Conference 2017 at UCL Institute of Education, University College London to perform a Chinese speech. Conrad is the Intermediate Group Prize Winner of 2017 HSBC/British Council Mandarin Chinese speaking competition.

It was a great honour to be invited to the conference as it was a distinguished gathering of Chinese teachers across the UK, university academics and representatives from the Embassy of China. The audience were all very impressed by Conrad’s outstanding Chinese speech titled “Marco Polo’s Adventure and China Nowadays”, knowing that he has only studied Mandarin Chinese for three years at Eltham College. Taking the opportunity to perform at the conference has not only brought Eltham College honour but also hugely motivated Conrad to continue studying Mandarin Chinese to a higher level. Congratulations to Conrad!
