The Biology Department ran a photography competition for the third year in a row and had another overwhelming response with some very interesting and creative entries. The theme this year was “Hidden World”. The winning photographs were chosen by members of the Science Department.
Henry Holden (7TAB) took first place this year, the photograph was taken over the holidays in South Africa. “This is a photograph of a tiny chameleon that was hiding in a bush in the evening when I went on safari in South Africa.”
Caitlin Cole’s (MEG6) photograph of a butterfly came in second place. “This was taken at the Natural History Museum’s Sensational Butterflies exhibition. It is an owl butterfly, the insides of the wings are bright blue but the outside are adorned with realistic owl eye patterns that are a survival advantage.”
Third place went to Hector Gray (9CPD) for his photo of a stag beetle. “My photo is of a British Stag Beetle found in Blackheath during the summer holidays. I took this photo with my phone. The Stag Beetle is an endangered species in the UK.”
