On Wednesday 8 November, Year 5 took part in a Roman Day organised by Theatre Exchange. The workshop was an immersive drama experience which required the boys to take on the roles of various Roman citizens. Everyone was fully involved in the drama and the boys particularly enjoyed re-enacting battle scenes and exploring Roman battle formations!
Earlier on in the term, the boys had been challenged to make their own Roman legionary shields. Earlier Roman shields were oval and flat, but later on they became more rectangular and curved, and it was nice to see the boys producing shields in a range of styles. Most chose to use the traditional red and yellow colourings which gave a very pleasing effect when the students utilised their shields in battle formations on the playground!
The wonderful thing about this workshop was that it got the children really engaged in bringing history to life outside of the classroom, and the feedback from the boys was extremely positive.
