On Wednesday 15 November, Year 4 participated in an Ancient Greeks workshop, run by the Theatre Exchange company.

The day started with the boys taking on the role of Athenian citizens, and exploring the temple and marketplace. Very soon, however, they were given the distressing news that Persian forces were making their way towards Athenian shores, necessitating a democratic discussion of how the citizens should respond. After several proposals were made, the citizens agreed that they should head into battle and try to defeat their foes.

After this decision, the citizens built some triremes (special boats) to help with their journey, and we also witnessed some dedicated marching before the battle was won by the Athenians – hooray!

To celebrate, the students performed some genuine Ancient Greek theatre which was certainly very dramatic!
