On Thursday 11 January The Bishop of Woolwich, Revd Prebendary Dr Woyin Karowei Dorgu, visited our students in Chapel. Dr Dorgu was born and brought up in Nigeria and worked as a medical doctor before coming to the UK in 1987 where he was ordained as a priest in 1996. He is the 13th Bishop of Woolwich, succeeding Rt Revd Dr Michael Ipgrave in March last year.

Dr Dorgu spoke about his previous experience as a doctor and how his faith has helped him through difficult periods of his life. He also talked about Woolwich being a microcosm of different faiths and ethnicities. Dr Dorgu said one of his priorities as Bishop would be to celebrate the racial diversity of the Woolwich area.

During the service, The Eltham College Boys’ Choir sang ‘An Irish Blessing’ by Alexander Lestrange and The Grange Choir performed ‘Jubilate’ by Philip Stopford for the Bishop.
