Over the Easter holidays, 80 boys from Year 10 completed a three-day expedition to East Sussex, as part of their Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
The participants had spent much of the Lent term learning the basics of navigation and camp craft, and were very fortunate to start their expedition on the sunniest day of the year so far. Weighed down with heavy tents, camping stoves, clothes, and food, they navigated their way from Uckfield down into the South Downs National Park. Despite the spring-like weather, footpaths and campsites were still extremely muddy. Each group showed great resilience to overcome this and reach their end points in time to put up their tents and cook dinner before sundown.
After three long days of walking, the groups hit the south coast. Here, they climbed the famous Seven Sisters hills to complete their journey. All were relieved to see the sight of the school minibus and a very welcome ice cream van. With many lessons learned, students will now start preparing for their assessed expedition in June. Many thanks to all students and staff for a fantastic few days.
