With universities, degree apprenticeship providers and graduate employers placing significant emphasis on the value of work experience, we are keen to establish a structured week long work experience programme for our Lower Sixth Form, starting in June 2019. Given that students are no longer required to sit AS exams at this time, a designated week will provide the ideal opportunity for them to develop vital employability skills, as well as ‘test drive’ a potential future career – and start to build an invaluable professional network. Importantly, the timing of programme is such that they will be able to reference the placement as part of their post-18 applications.
Significantly, unlike the current post-GCSE programme for Year 11, it is our intention to support the students in securing meaningful work experience. To achieve this, we hope to harness the placement opportunities afforded by our parents and alumni community, recognising that both groups offer potential access to a wide range career sectors.
A few weeks ago we sent a link to an online survey that many of you have kindly completed. If however you have not already done so, are a parent in Years 7-11, and would like to register your thoughts, you can access the short questionnaire by clicking here The deadline for submission is Monday 18th June.
To date we have received overwhelming support for the introduction of the proposed work experience programme (98%), but we will update you on the final outcome once the full results have been collated.
