Eltham College is delighted to be celebrating another year of outstanding GCSE results. 30% of all grades awarded were the top grade of 9 and 82% of the year group achieved 9/8 grades (equivalent A*/A) in at least 8 subjects or more.
This year’s students were the first cohort to be marked by a numerical system which replaces the traditional A*-G grades. The new grading system sees the replacement of A*-G grades with 9-1 grades (9/8/7 grades are equivalent to A*-A). As a result, GCSEs were expected to be tougher, focusing on more demanding subject content in exams and removing the coursework element from almost all GCSE subjects.
There was huge success across core subjects with 90% of students achieving either an 9/8/7 grade in Science and Mathematics and 92% in Modern Foreign Languages (Mandarin, French and Spanish).
Conrad Scrivener was among one of our students that received excellent results with 11 A* grades, he said: “I am ecstatic with my results and at the moment I am totally lost for words. Right from Junior School you begin to build towards this moment, acquiring knowledge ready to take these exams and now I have that piece of paper that shows all the work and effort that I have put in has paid off. I moved to Eltham College in Year 9 and it has changed my life as there is no way that I would have achieved these results without the support that I have had from my teachers and fellow students. Everyone cared and wanted me to do well and it showed through the willingness of the teachers to help in any way they could”.
