1St XV – Mr. Howard
The 1st XV ended an unbeaten first half of term with an emphatic 63 – 7 victory over Colfe’s School on Saturday. On a beautiful morning, the team produced some of the best attacking rugby of the term. As there was no second team game, we had a larger squad than , and all of the players fitted in seamlessly.
U16A – Mr Chesterton
The Under 16A team completed an unbeaten half term by putting Colfe’s School to the sword on Saturday. In windy conditions, they produced an impressive all-round performance. Playing with the wind in the first half Eltham kicked well and remained patient as Colfe’s School put up some firm resistance. James B scored two tries in a close opening 25 minutes, but crucially Eltham grabbed two further scores in the last 5 minutes of the first half, both from Juan C, to break the game open. Colfe’s ended the first half 26-0 down, and their heads dropped. The second half saw two further scores for Juan and one from Angola O as Eltham completely dominating despite being into the wind. At 47-0, Eltham was still giving everything when the final whistle blew in search of the half-century. A great result and the most promising performance of the season so far.
Under 16B – Mr Brown
The Under 16B team secured another victory on Saturday, beating Colfe’s 34-0. Andrew’s impressive footwork led to the first try of the afternoon followed by another by a strong running Crouch.
Two further tries from Ben Marshall, and Jagger capped off a brilliant team display. ‘Powerhouse Pravin’ and ‘ ‘Ard as nails Arrien’ two of the standout players.
Under 15A – Mr Davies
The Under 15A team had a resounding 40 points to 5 win over Colfe’s on Saturday. Despite being under pressure from a competitive Colfe’s side in the first half, we managed to score two tries through the forwards to reach the break 14 – 0 ahead. A few tactical adjustments resulted in immediate success with two excellent tries in close succession. A superb second half resulted in two more scores. The outstanding player in this game was Tom C.
Under 15B – Mr Houghton
The Under 15B team coasted to an easy victory over Colfe’s with a 60 – 5 win in which we scored all the points, even the Colfe’s ones! Deft handling from Macheath, Samani and Bidwell released a whole host of try scorers through the highly porous Colfe’s back line.
Under 14A – Mr Jervis
The Under 14A side faced a strong hard running Colfe’s side. The first ten minutes proved to be the decisive period of the match. Eltham simply did not turn up at the races and conceded two tries that could have been avoided with a more aware defence. Many missed tackles meant that Colfe’s scored both close to the posts which allowed them to convert to lead 14 – 0. It was an entertaining game which saw the wind and slope give a significant advantage of which Colfe’s took full advantage of in the first half. The rest of the half remained scoreless as Eltham started to play with a bit more intensity.
The second half saw a role reversal as Eltham enjoyed the lion share of possession and territory yet could not capitalise. There were plenty of positives from the second half with captain Ollie G leading by example as he took the fight to Colfe’s but it was just not our day, and the final score ended 14 – 5 to Colfe’s. Lessons to learn that you can not play for only half the game and expect to win despite the great effort the team put in during the second half.
Under 13A – Mr Thorogood
The Under 13A team took advantage of the three weeks of solid training to put on an excellent display of attacking rugby. Building on a transition season so far the boys scored some superb try’s playing a very exciting brand of rugby. Adem C scored the try of the game, and his all-round performance earned him man of the match.
