On Friday 9 November, Eltham College held a remembrance service followed by a wreath laying and a minute of silence in the memorial garden at the front of the Chapel. Old Elthmians, Leonard Lovelock (1937), Neil Fowler Wright (1991) and Lieutenant Sam Dower (2011) also attended the ceremony.
The Junior School also held their remembrance service in the playground. This was followed by an assembly presented by the School Archivist, Mark Stickings detailing the circumstances at Eltham College during The Great War and those from the school who gave their lives so bravely.
Additionally, to commemorate the 34 Old Elthamians who lost their lives during the First World War 34 poppies, made by current Eltham students and staff, have been installed in Chapel. The poppies, alongside a plaque in the School Chapel, has been dedicated to these Old Elthamians, to serve as a solemn reminder to students the atrocity of war and the sacrifice made.
Another poppy installation can be found in the Gerald Moore Gallery, made by art students who have created a poppy for someone they wish to remember. The general public is welcome to visit on Saturdays from 10am to 4pm until 10 December to view the installation and to make their poppy to display in the Gallery.
