1ST XV – MR HOWARD
The 1st XV team continued their unbeaten Saturday fixture list with an emphatic 62-10 victory over Sevenoaks School. Some of the scores were truly breath-taking and gave the team even more confidence going into their national cup fixture against Whitgift School this Wednesday.
Under 16A – MR LESPIERRE
The Under 16s looked to continue their unbeaten run against Sevenoaks School on a sunny Saturday afternoon. The game started at a frantic pace with both sides creating opportunities. Sevenoaks struck first on the scoreboard with a penalty as errors and infringements became Eltham’s downfall. That seemed to breathe life into Eltham’s attack, and they scored a fine try which was converted to go into the lead at the half. The scoreline of 18-7 flattered the opponents with Eltham playing the better Rugby but ultimately being a master of their demise on this occasion.
Under 16B – MR MCGEEKIE
A fantastic game of rugby with probably the best try in the history of school rugby being scored. Within their own 22 Uzo makes a swerving run, Previn ran a great support line and with three players still in support the ball was eventually offloaded to Harry who dotted over for a brilliant try. In the passage of play every Eltham player touched the ball and offloaded sublimely. Every single player was magnificent and equally contributed to a fantastic game of rugby!
Under 15A – MR DAVIES
The Under 15A team played The Campion School in the National Cup just before half term. In the best performance of the season, we led throughout until Campion scored the winning try in the dying seconds. An excellent performance from the Eltham boys and we wish Campion good luck in the next round of the competition.
Last Saturday against Sevenoaks School a much-changed team battled well and showed some real pride. After conceding two early tries, the rest of the game was evenly contested. Our try was from an excellent crosskick by Josh H, collected and scored by Tom G. A contender for try of the season! Final score 5 – 22.
U15B – MR HOUGHTON
The Under 15B team began at a blistering pace with quick tries from Will T and Tobi O. However, the loss of Benjy D was to cost us dearly as the game started to swing in Sevenoaks favour. Despite valiant tackling from Tristan W and Charlie S, Sevenoaks ran out winners 39-27.
Under 14A – MR JERVIS
On Saturday the Under 14A team played their Kent Cup Quarter Final against an unbeaten Sevenoaks School side. Eltham took the game to the opposition straight from the beginning, and some hard direct running from Matthew M and Oliver G gave the team precious metres going forward with one of Mathew’s strong runs ending with a well-deserved try. The forwards put in a great shift and worked hard throughout the game and had patience in keeping the ball. One of these drives resulted in a try for Miles M after diving over the line following multiple phases.
It was never clear that the game would be won after these early scores as Sevenoaks came back strongly. Despite some skilful line breaks they could not get past the irresistible force of Georgiy S who did not let anyone pass. Sevenoaks did manage to score in the second half following some good play from their , but Eltham did not let this affect their game as they continued to work hard off the ball. Some resolute defence pinned Sevenoaks in their own which forced them to kick on several occasions. This allowed Nathan G to return the ball with interest and following a jinking run he touched down for Eltham’s third try. At 17-7 the game was still in doubt as any slip up would allow Sevenoaks to get their tails up for a final rally. The resolute defence continued and the effort that Eltham put in right up until the last minute was rewarded as it was they scored last to win the game 22-7 and go on to the Kent Cup semi-final later this week.
Under 14B – MR HAMMOND
The Under 14Bs put on a great performance against an energetic Sevenoaks School side. This is one of the best performances of a team which has had to endure much change to personnel throughout the term. Although the score (20 Eltham -26 Sevenoaks) is not what we would have liked, the scoreline does reflect the hearty contest, which this match certainly was. The boys should be proud of their attitude and perseverance. The coaches look forward to our next game where we are sure to do one better.
Under 12A – MR KING
Under 12A had a doubleheader on Friday afternoon against The Judd School and Brentwood School. Both games were fiercely contested with Eltham winning 15-10 and 30-0 respectively.
