2ND XV – MR THOMAS
The 2nd XV played their final game of the season on Wednesday against St Olave’s Grammar School. Due to injuries some of the Under 16 played up in the 2nd team and contributed towards an excellent display of running rugby. Eltham started well attacking from everywhere, and it was no surprise when Juan C opened the scoring with a try. It then became a family display with Joel scoring a try, and then Juan running in two more. Eltham was in total control of the match with Finn F and Jamie P carrying the ball well. Two more tries, one by Robert C secured an excellent 45-0 victory. Well done to the 25 players who participated in the game.
Under 15A – MR DAVIES
The Under 15A team put in an excellent final performance to beat St Olave’s by 31 points to 15. Tries were scored by captain Finn E (3) and Lawrence C (2). Josh H converted three. The boys have made excellent progress this season, and the future for Eltham rugby is bright.
A big thank you to Finn for his leadership on an off the field. Also a huge thanks to all the parents who have been so supportive all season.
Under 14A – MR JERVIS
After a hard loss to The Skinners’ School last weekend the boys did not let their heads go down. They began to work hard in the training sessions throughout the week.
The team were asked to play with heart in this game, and they did precisely that. With an uneven pitch the boys played uphill the first half, with the sloped in favour of St Olave’s, St Olave’s scored two tries and left Eltham 12-0 down going into the second half.
Eltham showed they wanted to win this last match and gave it their all in the second half with great carries from Josh M and tackles from Oliver E. Eltham scored a try at the start of the second half with a powerful and hard run from Isaiah O-E.
Eltham suddenly took the lead with a great pick and go from the ruck by Miles M. The Eltham backs created a considerable threat with Tobi C, Georgiy S, Kristian A and Oliver G making daring runs at the St Olave’s defence. Lewis S played scrum-half for the first time this season and led by example and carried out his duties with accuracy. St Olave’s number 8 made a hard run and scored a try with 5 minutes to go giving them the lead, but the boys continued to play hard and work hard. With a powerful run by Josh M, Luke was able to pick the ball up and snipe his way to the try line. Oliver E had been excellent with his conversions throughout the game and converted all the try’s giving Eltham the lead of 21-19. With the clock going into the final seconds the Eltham boys dug deep and continued to work hard and carry the ball powerfully, and Lewis S finished off the match as he kicked the ball out of play to secure Eltham’s win as they came back from 12-0 down to win 21-19.
We put out a great defensive and offensive effort throughout the game with everyone making tackles and amazing runs, it was an all-around effort from the boys, and they deserved the win.
Although the season has had its ups and downs and did not go the way they wanted, the boys did not let this affect them, and they continued to work hard week in and week out.
The team looks to prepare hard for next season and 7s in the hope of getting some silverware next season!
Under 14B – MR HAMMOND
This season has been one of many ups and downs for reason of; injury, mind-state, fortune, weather and attitude.
Fortunately, our final game against St Olave’s Grammar School was played in great conditions and the best of our spirits. With this said, the game got off to a rush with storming runs from our forwards and backs which put the opposition under pressure from the outset. Uriel J was first to cross in the left corner with a fantastic conversion from Freddie S. We soon crossed again with Reuben C scoring in the opposite corner to make the score 12-0. This is how the match stayed with many close calls by both sides in the second half. The attitude shown with these boys was a testament to how hard they have worked to rid themselves of old habits in favour of the more useful practice. Unlike the many preceding weeks, we were able to piece together a whole performance to see out a much-deserved win.
Under 12A – MR KING
