On Saturday 2 February, Eltham College played host to one of the zonal rounds of the National Primary Schools Chess Challenge, with matches taking place in King George’s Hall. Teams from eight local schools took part, with the standard of chess very high indeed. After several hours of intense play, Eltham’s Under 9 ‘A’ team were excited to win their section while the Under 11 ‘A’ team placed third in theirs. Both teams, as well as the Under 11 ‘B’ team, have now qualified for the national semi-finals, to take place during the Summer Term.
