After months of eager anticipation, 14 intrepid Year 8 students made the journey from Eltham College to Dartmoor in Devon for an Adventure Course.
Students donned their wet suits to do activities around the weirs in the River Tavy next to the Adventure Centre. The boys took part in a variety of challenges in the first couple of days: high ropes and trapeze, which most managed to catch, raft building where both attempts floated very well, and canoeing and kayaking on the River Exe.
For the final two nights, the boys gave up the comfort of the bunkhouse to spend time-based at an abandoned farmhouse in the vast, open spaces of the moor. From here the boys were taken scrambling, climbing and abseiling, in addition to building their shelter to sleep under for a night.
The week concluded with each team aiming to build the tallest flagpole. While the boys returned tired and with the unique aroma of Dartmoor, it was a most enjoyable week.
