On the weekend of 17 to 19 January, 23 senior netball girls went on tour to Nottingham. It was a busy weekend filled with lots of netball fixtures and team-building activities. The tour departed at lunchtime on Friday 17 January, with a pleasant journey ahead to Nottingham. Once the team had checked into the hotel, they enjoyed their first team meal at Nando’s. That evening, the girls took part in a quiz, where they were tested in a variety of categories. A spelling test wipeout round left a few teams embarrassed; however, it was a great evening enjoyed by all, with an early rise the following morning for a busy Saturday ahead.
In the morning, the girls battled it out in Sherwood Forest in a series of laser tag games. A lot of tactics were implemented and excellent discussions took place in order to secure the win. The morning ended with both teams winning three games each. Following laser tag, the group ventured to Nottingham High School to play in a triangular of fixtures for the afternoon. The A team had an excellent game with both sides very evenly matched; however, a few unlucky turnovers led to a final score of 6-9 loss. The second A team game was against Worksop School — a fast-paced game, but the girls put up a good fight. The final score was 11-21 loss. The B team had an excellent first game against Nottingham High, dominating with possession throughout the game and applying pressure to the opposition, which led to several turnover balls. The final score was 12-1 win. The B team’s second game against Worksop was intense — a very evenly matched game that ended in a 9-9 draw, with Lily scoring a cracking goal in the last few seconds. Finally, the C team played Nottingham High in an hour-long match and, despite an injury, the team pressed on. Some fantastic shooting by Ellen and Naomi kept the team in the lead throughout. The final score was a 14-11 win. A fantastic afternoon of netball and thank you to Nottingham High for being such fantastic hosts. The busy schedule continued as Old Ethamian girls Caitlin, Nabila and Megan led a tour around the Nottingham University campus and organised some fun games for the girls, finishing the busy, yet exciting, day with a team meal.
On Sunday morning, the teams played the University of Nottingham in three friendly fixtures, with the opportunity to use some high-class sporting facilities. The Eltham squad showed commitment, determination and great strength against girls that were older, stronger and more experienced. Now halfway through the season, the squad’s hard work and perseverance has paid off and the teams have gelled well.
We look forward to seeing what the rest of the term has to offer for the senior netball teams. Well done to all those involved and a big thank you to Miss Richard and Mrs Bilsby for their help this weekend.
