On Wednesday 5 February the U18 A, B and C netball teams travelled to Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School for an afternoon of competitive netball. The weather conditions were excellent, and spirits were high even though Eltham College was five players down due to illness and injuries.

The A team had a challenging game, and although the team worked hard to get the ball in the circle, the opposition’s defence put tremendous pressure on Eltham’s shooters. The team showed vast improvements since last playing Chislehurst and Sidcup in November, however the final score was a 31-10 loss. Player of the match was awarded to Ujanah for fantastic movement around the court and excellent interceptions.

After a couple of weeks of victories, the B team faced a very tough game. The team were put through their paces and implemented some excellent set play but unfortunately, due to tiredness and not being able to get in front of players, Eltham lost a few turnovers. The final score was a 29-14 loss, which was a staggering improvement compared to the 32-0 loss in the team’s previous fixture against Chislehurst and Sidcup. Player of the match was awarded to Estelle for excellent defensive skills and stealing the ball from the opposition on several occasions.

The C team had perhaps their toughest game of the season. With three players absent, due to illness and injury, Eltham was missing its defence. Nevertheless, the girls did incredibly well, considering the team played out of position and had one less player. The final score was a 44-4 loss. Well done to the C team’s player of the match, Ike, who worked tirelessly in the circle to turnover the ball —Ike’s energy and enthusiasm had a great, positive impact on the team.

Although it was three losses this week, it is great to see the vast improvements the squad has made since last playing Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School. Eltham College’s next netball match is against Dartford Grammar after half term, which the squad is very much looking forward to.
