In summer 2020 15 Eltham College students were due to travel to Buikwe in Uganda with International Needs, to work on vital water sanitation projects. However, due to the current Covid-19 pandemic this trip will now not take place in July and has been postponed until 2021.
Given the vulnerability of the communities we are involved with in Buikwe we would still like to support the ongoing sanitation projects that International Needs work on. As the students are unable to visit Uganda this year they have instead joined with the PE Department to launch the ‘London to Buikwe 10,000km Challenge’. A challenge which all members of the school community are invited to join.
Students, families and staff are invited to help us complete the equivalent journey from Eltham College to Buikwe, Uganda by walking, running, cycling or any other form of physical activity. Our challenge is to travel 10,000km as a school by Friday 12 June.
Should you wish to participate, please log each activity using this form (including photos if possible).
We appreciate that not all those participating in the challenge will be in a position to contribute towards International Needs work in-country. However, should you wish to make a donation, please do so using this link, where you can find more information about the work International Needs carries out. Any amount is truly appreciated and will make a real difference.
We hope to make it as far as Tunisia by the end of half term week so please get moving! You can keep up to date with the school’s progress by following @ecugandatrip (Instagram) and @ElthamSport (Twitter).
The Eltham College Uganda 2021 Team have put together this short film outlining the importance of the work carried out by International Needs in Buikwe.
