On Monday 18th January the Eltham Career Learning team launched the 2021 Virtual Work Experience (WEX) Programme to Lower Sixth Form students.
First initiated during last year’s lockdown, this adapted version of the traditional placement-based WEX programme proved to be highly successful, with students completing a variety of work-related projects, set by a wide-range of employers and partner organisations. Employer feedback and results of last year’s projects can be found on the link here.
This year there are more projects than ever, provided by companies across a range of sectors including Finance, Banking, Law, Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Advertising, Publishing, Medicine, Dentistry and the Civil Service. There may also be physical placements available if opportunities arise at a later date.
All the WEX projects are listed on the Elthamians Network, our online platform that enables Sixth Form students and OEs stay in touch with each other and the school. Significantly, the website also provides a support network, inviting members to offer help to one another, including mentoring, talks in school and advice about a particular university or career pathway.
Through the WEX programme students are able to get a taste of a possible future careers, discover new career pathways, create a professional network, and gain a competitive advantage in their post-18 applications and be career ready. The application process itself gives students experience of applying for positions and tailoring applications specific to each project.
Parents can also join the Elthamians Network, where they have access to their own Parents Group and can view the WEX projects available to their son/daughter. Just visit the website and click the ‘Get started’ button.
