Where were you before Eltham College?

I was once a full-time teacher at Eton, but gave it up a few years ago to mix a career as a freelance opera singer with temporary teaching contracts. I’ve since taught at Tonbridge, the City of London School, Harrow and most recently – last year – at Eltham College.  I enjoyed it so much I have now returned to Eltham to teach English.

What have you enjoyed so far about starting here?

Starting this January has been remarkable, as I haven’t yet seen the faces of any of my students.  I have most enjoyed how willing they are to take part in the extraordinary nationwide experiment that is ‘online learning’.

What are you most excited about undertaking with students?

I’m most excited about actually meeting some of them ‘in person’.

Something students and staff may not know about you?

The only three operatic jobs that I was able to fulfil in 2020 involved me pretending to be – in order of appearance – Mao Tse Tung, a crazed French maths teacher, and a Parisian Cheesemonger in a yellow spotty frock!
