Year 8 scholars this week have been thinking about significant changes that impact upon our lives. In the session they were considering Quantum Computing. In order to understand the significance of this change it was essential for them to understand how the traditional binary system in computers works. Having watched a powerpoint and video clips the pupils were in groups setting each other puzzles and numbers to convert into binary and vice versa. By the end of the lesson they had got the joke “There are only 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those who don’t.”
The lesson forms part of the Scholars Programme which includes workshops and lectures overseen by our Head of Academic Scholarship, Mr Cavendish.
