World Book Day took place yesterday Thursday 4 March. The theme this year was ‘sharing stories’ and the whole school community were encouraged to recommend their favourite books.
Virtual author visits took place in both the Junior and Senior School. Gareth Jones spent time with Year 3 and 4, and talked about his Detective series. Piers Torday author of the Wild series, delivered a masterclass on story writing for Year 5 and 6. Adam Baron author of Boy Underwater spoke to Year 7 about his inspiration for writing and gave valuable advice to our young writers.
Tom Mitchell, Head of Creative writing delivered assemblies to all year groups in the Senior School and special World Book Day assemblies were held in the Junior School.
The ‘Bookface’ competition where students and teachers used photographs of book covers to create new pieces of art received many entries. The Junior School children created their favourite book characters using boiled eggs, potatoes and toilet rolls!
Activities like the big Bonanza Quiz, design a book token and a dress up contest took place throughout the week in the Junior and Senior School, and English teachers held activities in lessons to celebrate World Book Day and promote the love of reading.
Students were emailed their digital World Book Day tokens.
