Architect and OE Kees van der Sande joined Mr Cavendish, Head of Academic Scholarship to present the second in a series of talks entitled “Building an Understanding” to members of the Sixth Form Symposium. It was great to have the students physically in the classroom, whilst Kees joined remotely.
Having last week leapt from Reformation and Pre Reformation churches to Modernist architecture of the 20th century, this week the session continued the examination of the extent to which the design of buildings reflect not only their function but dominant belief systems. A look at the work of Rachel Whiteread who “sculpts space” finished the session. Kees’ insights were invaluable to the scholars.
The lesson forms part of the Scholars Programme which includes workshops and lectures overseen by our Head of Academic Scholarship, Mr Cavendish.
