Year 7 scholars continued their investigation into the “Village Utopia” of Saltaire in West Yorkshire last week. In the spirit of the scholarship programme overall, the aim was to explore links between subjects and ideas and across time and to enthuse and inspire the students. The session focussed on the conditions existing in many 19th century factories, in particular the number of unacceptable health and safety issues evident in an image from the time.
In the next session students will consider how and why Titus Salt chose to respond to these sorts of conditions and what other even more radical assessments of the problem and its solution also emerged.
The lesson forms part of the Scholars Programme which includes workshops and lectures overseen by our Head of Academic Scholarship, Mr Cavendish.
