Year 7

Year 7 Netball has flourished in the short time the girls have been at Eltham College. From week one the girls were keen to get involved at netball training on Saturdays and demonstrated an impressive skill set as a cohort. Almost three quarters of the girls in Year 7 attend Monday night netball training and are determined to progress their skills. The U12A team have had two fixtures this half term. The first on 15 September to Epsom College for a Sisters in Sport Cup game in which the girls all put their maximum effort into the match. The game went to extra time as the score line was level, with the next goal winning which unfortunately went to the opposition, finishing 14-13 to Epsom College. The second match for the U12A’s was against Colfe’s. The girls focused and performed the skills they had gained at training into the match leading to a superb final score of 17-5 to Eltham College.

Year 8

Students enjoyed a Netball pre-season training session before returning back to school on Saturday 4 September, where 22 girls attended to kick-start the season.

The first cup match took place on Friday 10 September.  The A team travelled to Putney High School to play in the first round of the School Sports Magazine cup. It was a challenging game, and although it wasn’t a win, the girls learnt a lot and made progress throughout.

On Monday 13 September, the A team played against Royal Russel in the first round of Sister n Sport cup. The girls showed huge improvements and dominated the final quarter of the game. The final match of the term was against Priors Field in the first round of the ISNC. It was a nail-biting game where it was neck and neck up until the final minute! Prior Field snuck in a final goal in the last 30 seconds, meaning the girls lost by one goal and therefore did not qualify for the next round. The girls have continued to train on a weekly basis, with over 20 girls consistently attending.

Seniors

Over 20 senior girls attended Netball pre-season on Tuesday 31 August, where they enjoyed a series of fitness exercises, team building activities, netball drills and games.

On Thursday 9 September, the 1st team travelled to Chis and Sid to play in a tournament against 4 other teams. The girls won all their games.  The following week we played our 1st cup round against King’s College Wimbledon. It was a challenging and competitive game. The girls put up a strong fight, however team fitness let the girls down which meant KCW took the win by a few goals.  The following evening, the girls took part in the first ever Friday Night Lights event at Eltham College. It was a fantastic evening with 3 schools playing and over 60 spectators. The 1st VII played exceptionally well, winning all of their games, therefore being crowned overall winners. This was all good preparations for Kent’s, which followed the next week. Upon arrival, it was clear that it would be a tough competition.  The girls remained focused and determined throughout the tournament. They won all games including against Langley Park School for Boys, Chis and Sid, St Dunstan’s and Sutton Valence. The 1st VII are positive about the Kent finals on Saturday 27 November. The final week of term saw the first A-C team fixtures, and these were against Langley Park School for Boys. It was lovely to see 29 senior girls play and it was a fantastic afternoon of Netball.

Finally congratulations to Kyveli and Christine for making the selections for the U13 Kent County Netball team and to Maddie in Year 12 for being selected in the U17 London Pulse Netball squad.
