Political Leadership: Message Method and Medium.

Year 10 Athenaeum considered the importance of speech making as a tool for effective political leadership. Examining four speeches by significant political figures of the 20th century, the students discussed what the key elements in those addresses were, what made them so effective in their time and still so memorable today. The contexts may have differed, and the messages varied in their focus but how much did they have in common, and would their approach still be effective in the 21st century?

Perhaps even the mention of the words “dream” “fight” “healing” and “suffrage” may indicate the power, passion and people involved in those iconic messages which our students so enthusiastically examined.

The lesson forms part of the Scholars Programme which includes workshops and lectures overseen by our Head of Academic Scholarship, Mr Cavendish.
