Year 9 students attended a study day focused on transatlantic slavery at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich.
Students worked with Museum staff to analyse original manuscripts, handle objects, and explore the Museum’s slave trade and slavery gallery to find out more about – their focus question: ‘How did transatlantic slavery change societies around the globe?’
Students also explored some of the Museum’s other galleries on the East India Company, and on the Pacific Ocean. Year 9 have been studying this topic in class this term and having the chance to engage with this topic through investigating the Museum’s collections, deepened and extended their understanding of this complex and brutal part of world history.
